We are created for a lifetime of love and intimacy, but relationships can be hard, even for the happiest couples.  Distance, frustration, and disconnection can enter through any number of life’s events.  You may be looking for premarital guidance, to enrich an already healthy relationship, revitalize a tired one, or adjust one gone awry.  This workshop will help you to better understand your partner, and learn to cultivate a warmer, more joyful and loving relationship.

Based on the research and clinical work of Dr. Sue Johnson, Created for Connection combines the best modern insights about love and bonding with the deep wisdom of our Christian tradition.

Ned has partnered with Lake Junaluska to offer Dr. Sue Johnson’s workshop at an affordable price and a beautiful location.

Two Day workshop for Couples

Lake Junaluska Marriage Enrichment Retreats combine the very best modern research about love and marriage with a deep understanding of God's love and grace in our lives.  Sue Johnson writes, "love for the divine guides and enhances bonding between partners, and the daily practice of love between partners helps to strengthen a sense of secure connection with God." The focus of the retreat is on your relationship with your partner, so while there will be some group interaction, you will not be required to share personal information with the group.

What you will learn and apply

  1. How to strengthen essential psychological and spiritual foundations for healthy, happy relationships.

  2. How to stop rigid negative patterns in communication that lead to frustration and disconnection.

  3. How to be more accessible, responsive and engaged in your relationship.

  4. How to better understand your partner and help them to understand you.

  5. How to share your deepest needs for support, love and affection and respond to those same needs in your partner.

This retreat is NOT appropriate for:

  • Couples in extreme distress, including abuse or where one or more partners is no longer engaged in the relationship.

  • Couples wherein one or more partners is actively engaged in ongoing substance abuse or infidelity.

  • Couples where one or more partners are suffering from untreated mental illness.
